Karen Montgomery, Ph.D., M.Ed., NCC (She/Her)

Karen Montgomery is a pre-licensed therapist who recently completed her Doctorate of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision. She holds a Master of Education in School Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. With over 13 years of experience as a public school counselor, Karen brings extensive knowledge and hands-on expertise in supporting children, adolescents, and their families.

Karen specializes in child and adolescent development, with a strong focus on the physical, cognitive, psychological, and social-emotional challenges that arise across developmental stages. Her background in school counseling has strengthened her interpersonal, crisis management, and collaboration skills, allowing her to navigate sensitive situations with calm, organization, and professionalism. She has worked closely with multidisciplinary school teams to improve student outcomes and connect families with appropriate resources, reflecting her deep commitment to both individual and community well-being.

Karen is also a Veteran, which provides her with a deep understanding of military culture and the unique experiences of individuals and families who have served. She has experience working with adults who have served in the military and is especially mindful of the transitions, stressors, and life adjustments that can accompany military service.

In her counseling work, Karen primarily uses a Solution-Focused Therapy approach. She partners with clients to enhance self-awareness, challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, build confidence, and identify achievable goals. Karen places a strong emphasis on strengths-based work and the importance of multicultural awareness, ensuring that counseling is respectful, inclusive, and tailored to each client’s unique experiences.

Karen is passionate about helping clients move forward by focusing on solutions, resilience, and growth, and she looks forward to supporting individuals and families on their journey toward positive change.
